Information to assemble a Vehicle Specification can be sourced form the following documents which are listed in priority order.
- FIA Homologation Papers for the specific model, Where they exist
- CAMS Specification Documents from the period.
- Manufactures repair or training manuals as issued by the manufacturer (Not a Haynes Manual) ♦
- Manufacturers spare parts catalogues ♦
- Manufacturers sales or advertising brochures including the owners manual ♦
- Period road tests or magazine article by reputable journals
Note: ♦ these items can often be found on the internet without too much effort.
whilst the FIA database might sound like utopia, a review of a couple of them shows up glaring errors. For example the listed "weight" of 1 Nd era car i looked at is clearly erroneous and does not match manufactueres data from the period. further reseach found the weigh quoted was most likely that of the lowest spec model which had smaller engine, gearbox and diff in the same body shell., so was quite obviously lighter. When considering weight, manufacturers had different ways of describing it; kerb, drive-away, dry, maximim loaded etc etc , so some prudence will be needed. Quite likely, for some potentially contentious data like this, several sources will need to be checked to see if there is any consensus.
